Hello friends! After working on this project for the last 4 years, I'm so happy and excited to share with you that I've officially launched my own custom-formulated anti-aging skincare line. Welcome to RX Youth Skincare!
How did I come up with the idea to create this line? It was a combination of things. I was frustrated as a skincare aficionado, because it seemed like every time I found a product that worked for my very sensitive and reactive skin, it would eventually be discontinued. In addition, I would often feel like there were so many choices being marketed to me and my demographic (woman over 40 with "mature skin"), but who actually has time to do a 10-step skincare routine every day and night??
I also have a very personal reason for wanting to custom-formulate the products myself with the help of a very talented team of cosmetic chemists. Throughout my life, I've suffered from various skin conditions including acne, psoriasis, and hypersensitivity reactions due to a medical condition (known as MCAS- Mast Cell Activation Syndrome). I react poorly to a lot of products, especially if they contain dyes or fragrances. My immune system tells me right away if I can use a product or not. I have to be very careful about what I put on my face and my body. Otherwise I will have to deal with rashes, hives, flushing, burning eyes, etc.
There are some ingredients ("hero ingredients") that I know work for anti-aging benefits, which I wanted to include at the appropriate (i.e. effective) concentrations. But there were also some ingredients that I knew I would not want to include, because there is some evidence that they may be harmful with prolonged exposure. Since very effective alternative ingredients are available, I would prefer to use those. Even though I know that the concept of "Clean Beauty" is controversial, I do believe that we should at least try to do our best to use the highest quality ingredients in our personal care products. After all, we use these products every day, which means over time, there is a high cumulative exposure. I personally prefer to use products that are vegan, and use sustainably sourced ingredients, while offering recyclable packaging. In the age of over consumption and consumerism, I wanted to offer a line that is minimalist but effective. Because at the end of the day, the best routine is one that you will actually do every day (and doesn't require you to spend an hour in the bathroom). Consistency is what produces results. Simple is better.
This is how my product line was born. I have an easy to follow morning and evening skincare ritual which helps to protect your skin from environmental hazards (like free radicals, UV rays, and pollutants), and encourage a healthy skin barrier while aiding in your skin's natural collagen production. Our collagen production gradually declines with age, beginning in our mid-twenties. Collagen is one of the structural components of our skin that helps us to maintain smoother, tighter skin with fewer fine lines and wrinkles.
